„within man is the soul of the whole; the wise silence; the universal beauty, to which every part and particle is equally related; the eternal ONE / that Unity, that Over-soul, within which every man's particular being is contained and made one with all other / Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string. / 1. Words are signs of natural facts. 2. Particular natural facts are symbols of particular spiritual facts. 3. Nature is the symbol of spirit. / Every act rewards itself ... / The world globes itself in a drop of dew."'The Over-Soul' und 'Self-Reliance' und 'Compensation' in: Essays: First Series, Boston 1841; die drei Sätze zur Sprache in: Nature, Kap. IV ('Language'), Boston 1836. Motto von 'Self-Reliance': 'Ne te quaesiveris extra' (Persius).
